Lake Worth Beach Vice Mayor Sarah Malega recovering from medical issue
'Depending on the healing process, I am hoping to be back on the dais Oct. 6.'
Lake Worth Beach Vice Mayor Sarah Malega is recovering from an undisclosed medical issue and hopes to attend the Oct. 6 City Commission meeting.
Her medical issue was made public when City Commissioner Mimi May read a prepared statement from Malega at the beginning of the Sept. 30 Utility Commission meeting.
“Thank you to my colleagues, city staff and residents for your support. Over the past 10 days, I have received many calls and messages with concerns for my well being while I have been on medical leave, and I truly appreciate you all,’’ Malega said in the statement.
“Due to some minor complications, I’ve been unable to answer emails, but please feel free to reach out to city staff if you need immediate attention or responses. Depending on the healing process, I am hoping to be back on the dais Oct. 6. Thank you again for your understanding and support.’’
No details about her medical issue were offered.
“Vice Mayor Malega, our prayers are with you, and I’m sure I say that for everybody,’’ Mayor Betty Resch said.
Malega, 50, attended the Sept. 11 budget hearing in person and the Sept. 16 commission meeting via Zoom. She was absent from the Sept. 25 budget hearing and the Sept. 30 utility commission meeting.
The City Commission is scheduled to meet twice next week. A special meeting Oct. 6 is devoted to potential charter amendments and Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office priorities. A regular commission meeting is Oct. 7.
Malega took office in 2021 after defeating District One incumbent Scott Maxwell. She was re-elected in 2024.
She has been owner/CFO of Zoo Health Club of Lantana since 2022 and was owner/vice president of Zoo Health Club of Lake Worth Beach from 2010-2023.
