Ed Liberty takes the helm of the Florida Municipal Electric Association Board of Directors
Lake Worth Beach Electric Utility Director Ed Liberty has been elected president of the Florida Municipal Electric Association’s board of directors.
FMEA is a statewide trade association representing Florida’s 33 public power utilities, which provide electricity to more than four million of Florida’s residential and business consumers.
The association actively represents and advocates for member cities’ interests on a wide variety of state and federal issues, provides emergency response and mutual aid coordination, provides education and training for members and serves as a clearinghouse for industry news and information.
“It is a great honor to take the helm of this organization that does so much to support public power communities across the state,” Liberty said in a statement.
“I’m proud to serve alongside an exceptional group of leaders who will help continue to steer Florida’s public power utilities toward further innovation, sustainability and reliability,” he said.
Liberty, Lake Worth Beach’s electric utility chief since 2017, has more than 40 years in the energy industry.
“As a longtime public power leader, Ed brings expertise, experience and insights that will further strengthen our public power communities and guide our state’s energy future,” Amy Zubaly, FMEA Executive Director said in a statement. “We are thankful for his continued service and dedication to Florida public power.”
It was the latest honor for this year for Liberty.
At a conference in New Orleans in June, he was chosen as the recipient of the Mark Crisson Leadership and Managerial Excellence Award from the American Public Power Association (APPA). The national award recognizes outstanding public power utility and association managers who elevate their organizations through exemplary leadership, innovation, and dedication to operational excellence.
“Ed Liberty’s leadership has been instrumental in advancing the City of Lake Worth Beach’s electric utility operations, ensuring reliability, efficiency and innovation in service delivery,” said Mayor Betty Resch.
“His commitment to excellence has not only benefited our residents and businesses but has also set a standard for public power utilities nationwide,” she said.
