Is it time to charge a fee to use restrooms at Lake Worth Beach parks?
Mayor ponders the question after city commissioners, frustrated with chronic vandalism, shell out $98,000 for new bathrooms and other improvements at South Bryant Park
Lake Worth Beach is about to spend $98,000 to renovate the pavilion at South Bryant Park, including replacing the bathrooms with toilets and sinks that can’t easily be torn off the walls.
But before commissioners approved the project on Sept. 2, Mayor Betty Resch broached an idea to discourage what city officials say has been a disturbing pattern of vandalism at public bathrooms for years.
“Let's have a lock on the door and you have to pay to get in. If you have to go to the bathroom, you find 50 cents,’’ the mayor said. “To me that seems like a possible solution, because (the vandalism) is ridiculous.’’
