Free bike alert: L-Dub Santa plans to give away $10,000 worth to Lake Worth Beach kids
Dec. 1 is deadline to register for city's annual Holiday Bike Giveaway, open to local children ages 3 to 16
Calling all kids: The city of Lake Worth Beach is planning to give away more than $10,000 worth of brand-new bicycles next month in its annual Holiday Bike Giveaway.
But get rolling! The deadline to register is Dec. 1. Click this link to register.
The city plans to give away about 100 bikes to children ages 3 to 16 who reside in Lake Worth Beach with a zip code 33460 or 33461.
Winners will be announced at 4 p.m. Dec. 13 when names are drawn at the Cultural Plaza at 414 Lake Ave. downtown. Kids and their parents must be present to claim their bike.
Kids who registered by the Dec. 1 deadline should check in Dec. 13 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Cultural Plaza. Be sure to bring a valid ID including a Lake Worth Beach address.
“It’s a great thing for our children,’’ said City Commissioner Chris McVoy, a bicycle advocate.
Winners also receive helmets and a safety demonstration. And they are invited to participate in the holiday parade downtown later that day at 6 p.m., riding their new bikes behind one of the city Electric Utilities trucks.
“I love how the city can support the physical activity of our youth. There is nothing like learning to ride a bike to instill a sense of accomplishment and freedom into a child,” said Commissioner Mimi May.
“Any way we can help children be healthier and happier,” she said, “I am grateful to be able to support it.”
The annual holiday bike giveaway, started more than 14 years ago, is made possible by local sponsors. This year’s sponsors are: Lake Worth Beach Electric Utilities, Acorn Safe & Lock. Bridges at Lake Worth, Herff Jones Photo, Safe Kids Palm Beach County, Healthier Lake Worth Beach and the Bryant Park Neighborhood Association.
