Code violations, cash woes force closure of McCray’s Lake Worth Beach BBQ after six weeks
"It was practically a disaster from day one,’’ Lake Avenue landlord says.
WHEN DERRICK MCCRAY announced plans in June to bring his family barbecue dynasty to downtown Lake Worth Beach, locals and foodies lit up social media with excitement.
But not long after McCray’s Bar and Grill launched a soft opening in early July, things behind the scenes at 604 Lake Ave. started falling apart.
Licensing and code violations, along with cash-flow problems, led to the eatery’s shuttering earlier this month after just six weeks, well short of the Labor Day grand opening McCray had envisioned.
“It was practically a disaster from day one after I made my first inspection in early July,’’ said landlord David Kislin of Lucerne Ave Development, which owns the 7,000-square-foot space McCray’s leased at 604 Lake Ave.
