LAKE WORTH BEACH City Clerk Melissa Coyne was suspended without pay for two weeks this summer after she admitted to altering a city document to cover up a mistake she made.

The punishment was handed down June 18 after City Commissioner Anthony Segrich complained to Interim City Manager Troy Perry about the pace of the city’s investigation into the altered document — specifically, a falsified version of Segrich’s address in an email header.

Segrich, who brought the doctored email header to Perry’s attention a month earlier, said he believed she committed a felony and thought she should have been fired.

“The mistake that was concealed by her actions was minor,” Segrich said in an email to Perry on June 4, “however the fact that she intentionally and with such comfort falsified the email headers to cover a minor mistake is disturbing. It raises the question — what would she be willing and capable of doing with a more serious situation?’’
